El terminal se ubicará en el norte de Punta Chancay y en una extensa zona al sur-este de dicha ciudad, y tendrá dos principales componentes: El Terminal Portuario Multipropósito y La Zona de Actividades Logísticas.
Dicho complejo se compondrá de seis etapas con un potencial de crecimiento a mediano y largo plazo .
«La primera etapa se hará la zona operativa del puerto, con 42 hectáreas de propiedad y siete hectáreas de franja marítima. Se está construyendo una plataforma y esta zona se conecta a un complejo logístico a través de un túnel de 1.8 km. El complejo logístico de ingreso al puerto comprende unas 27 hectáreas.» dijo su Gerente General José Noriega Lores.
«En los próximos 30 meses se instalará una zona intraportuaria, que comprende la parte de graneles y carga rodante. Durante el último trimestre del 2019 se espera tener las licencias portuarias y se harán las pruebas, y para enero del 2020 se iniciará la operación del puerto de manera comercial.» puntualizó.
Agregó además que «La segunda etapa en el puerto de Chancay se iniciaría hacia el año 2021 y tendrá una inversión de US$ 100 millones. La tercera etapa consistirá en la construcción de un espigón de US$ 540 millones de inversión en el que se harían dos primeros muelles de contenedores a partir del 2025-2026. Otras dos etapas (cuarta y quinta etapas) comprenden cuatro muelles adicionales; y se evalúa una sexta etapa para instalar un puerto de graneles.»
Se espera que el complejo impulse una gran variedad de actividades industriales, comerciales y logísticas de valor agregado, constituyendo el elemento central que propiciará el desarrollo económico y el crecimiento del comercio y la industria en la zona centro-norte del Perú.
La empresa espera que este proyecto será el convertir a este puerto, conjuntamente con el Callao, en una HUB portuario no solo para el Perú sino también para toda la costa del Pacífico Sur.
