Diariamente, más de mil peruanos requieren un donante de sangre debido a emergencias médicas por las que atraviesan, como accidentes de tránsito, operaciones, tratamiento oncológicos, entre otros, informaron hoy fuentes del Ministerio de Salud (Minsa).

Jorge Leiva, coordinador del Programa Nacional de Hemoterapia y Banco de Sangre (Pronahebas) del Minsa, aseguró que, pese a las carencias, estas personas obtienen finalmente un donante, pero con demora debido a que pocos se presentan voluntariamente.

“En el Perú pocas personas donan su sangre por temor a las agujas, a adquirir alguna enfermedad venérea o a debilitarse. Por ello, es importante que superen su miedo y los mitos, para beneficiar a las personas que más lo necesitan”, explicó.

El especialista refirió que en el año 2011, el Minsa registró a 232 mil donantes. De este total, solo 12 mil lo realizaron por voluntad propia y 210 mil lo hicieron por reposición (cuando debe reponer la sangre sacada del almacén del hospital que se colocó a un familiar).

Indicó que el Perú tiene 242 bancos de sangre, de los cuales 87 son de nivel II,en donde hace un análisis del fluido vital para detectar posibles enfermedades, por ejemplo. Luego las muestras son llevadas a los 155 establecimientos restantes.
 
De ese total de los bancos de sangre, el 43 por ciento pertenece al Minsa, el 23.6 por ciento al Sistema Integral de Salud (SIS), 30.8 por ciento al sector privado y el 2.6 por ciento a las Fuerzas Armadas y Policiales.

Leiva mencionó que como una forma de alentar la donación voluntaria, el Minsa realizará este jueves 14 de junio una ceremonia por el Día Mundial de Donante de Sangre, denominada “Estamos buscando héroes…únete a nosotros” en el parque Pedro Ruíz Gallo de Lince.
