Para incrementar la producción agrícola en las comunidades campesinas de Puñun y Maray, la Dirección Regional de Agricultura (DRA.L), viene ejecutando en la Provincia de Huaura la construcción de la Represa Churincocha-Checras.
Obra que beneficia directamente a 183 pobladores de las comunidades antes mencionadas, las cuales cuentan con 360 hectáreas de terreno de cultivo. Cabe resaltar que también se verán beneficiados indirectamente los habitantes del distrito de Checras que cuenta con 420 habitantes, quienes se dedican básicamente a la agricultura y la ganadería.
El proyecto demandara una inversión de 1 millón 200 mil nuevos soles, financiado por la DRA.L. La represa tiene una capacidad de almacenamiento de 300,000 metros cúbicos de agua.
Su construcción consistirá en la realización de una presa con dique escalonado de mampostería –sistema tradicional que consiste en la construcción de muros y parámetros-.
La Dirección Regional de Agricultura ha previsto los recursos necesarios para la ejecución del proyecto. Mientras tanto el mantenimiento estará a cargo de la Comisión de Regantes de Virgen del Carmen de la Junta de Usuarios de las comunidades beneficiadas.
“Es un compromiso hecho por el presidente regional Ing. Nelson Chui Mejía, que a través de nuestra dirección viene cumpliendo con los pobladores de las zonas altoandinas de nuestra región, dándonos los recursos necesarios para ejecutar las obras que beneficien a nuestros agricultores y ganaderos, teniendo en cuenta que para ellos los recursos hídricos son vitales para su desarrollo socio-económico”, resalto el Ing. Luís Jiménez Sánchez, Director Regional de Agricultura.
