“Nuestra decisión sobre si usar la palabra ‘pandemia’ para describir una epidemia se basa en una evaluación continua de la propagación geográfica del virus, la gravedad de la enfermedad que causa y el impacto que tiene en toda la sociedad”, dijo.
“Por el momento, no estamos presenciando la propagación mundial incontenible de este coronavirus, y no estamos presenciando una enfermedad grave o mortal gran escala”. “¿Este virus tiene potencial pandémico? Absolutamente. ¿Ya llegamos? De nuestra evaluación aún no”, aclaró el presidente de la OMS.
Además, Ghebreyesus indicó que la OMS decidió enviar misiones científicas a Italia e Irán con la intención de ayudar a sus autoridades a poner en marcha las medidas de contención necesarias.
