Washington (EFE). El presidente de EE.UU., Barack Obama, explicó la operación que acabó con la vida de Osama Bin Laden desde la sala en la que se coordinó -la ‘Situation Room’ de la Casa Blanca- abierta a las cámaras por primera vez en su mandato.
La cadena NBC anunció que emitirá el próximo miércoles una entrevista grabada este jueves en la sala de crisis de la Casa Blanca, una habitación de alto secreto en la que apenas se ha permitido el acceso a la prensa, y mucho menos la concesión de entrevistas televisadas.
Fue en ella donde se tomó la famosa imagen del presidente rodeado de su equipo de seguridad nacional, con la secretaria de Estado, Hillary Clinton, cubriéndose la boca con la mano ante las imágenes de la operación que acabaría con el líder de Al Qaeda la madrugada del 2 de mayo de 2011 en Abbottabad (Pakistán).
“Hace un año, acabaron con Bin Laden. Hoy, por primera vez, los protagonistas principales están hablando de ello, sólo con (el presentador de NBC) Brian Williams”, señaló la cadena en un breve anuncio de la entrevista.
Según la cadena, Williams también entrevistó al vicepresidente Joe Biden, la secretaria de Estado, Hillary Clinton, el ex jefe del Estado Mayor, Mike Mullen, el asesor de Seguridad Nacional, Tom Donilon, y el consejero de Obama para asuntos de terrorismo, John Brennan, entre otros.

La apertura de esa sala de acceso estrictamente restringido forma parte de las conmemoraciones que, en pleno periodo electoral, la Casa Blanca ha decidido dedicar a la muerte de Osama Bin Laden, uno de los logros más claros del presidente Obama en política exterior y de seguridad nacional.
Si el vicepresidente Biden ya apuntó el jueves uno de los futuros eslóganes para la reelección de Obama -“Osama Bin Laden ha muerto, General Motors está vivo”- la campaña del mandatario difundió un video en el que insinúa que las cosas serían diferentes si su probable rival en las elecciones, Mitt Romney, fuera presidente.
El vídeo, de un minuto y medio, muestra al expresidente Bill Clinton alabando la decisión y el temple de Obama al ordenar la operación del grupo de operaciones especiales de la Marina (SEALS), para después preguntar “qué camino habría tomado Mitt Romney?”.
La “Situation Room” de la Casa Blanca fue creada en 1961 por el expresidente John F. Kennedy, tras el fracaso de la operación de Bahía Cochinos en Cuba, con el fin de servir como un centro de comunicaciones secreto y dotado de los dispositivos más modernos para hacer frente a situaciones propias de la Guerra Fría.
